Burp of Contentment

Jayhawks_newMake no mistake.  I am, and will always be, to a large extent, a Buckeye.  But I was wooed years ago by a Kansas farm girl.  I also lived for 8 years in Kansas, during which time my two sons were born.  I am outnumbered in my home:  3 Jayhawks to 1 Buckeye.

It was during those years on the prairie that Kansas won a national championship under Larry Brown and the brilliant play of Danny Manning.  I had no declared loyalties in regard to basketball and KU was an obvious choice.  I was hooked.  I have cheered and groaned alongside the Jayhawks ever since.

Last night was basketball paradise for several reasons.

  • Few gave KU a chance against the "unbeatable" Tigers.
  • A nine point deficit was erased in 2:10.
  • Mario Chalmers, my favorite hawk, was the ice man.
  • Digger Phelps (a coach who never won it all) has to shut up about how feeble KU is.

I'm not sure how much more my heart can take.  Adding last night's achievement to the incredible conclusion of the NFL season and the Giants' amazing Super Bowl triumph, I am sated with sports excitement.  I am so full I could not consume another portion.

Oh, yes.  I almost forgot.  My Buckeyes won the NIT too.  Consider me well-fed.  I shall be content to endure the sports desert (I am not a baseball fan) until football season dawns.

Dave, I must confess: I play football on my xbox because I miss real football. (And it's the only place where the chiefs can do well.)

So I guess we are fellow sojourners through this desert.
